CS CLUB - Meet La Reina
We caught up with Spanish creative powerhouse Jorge and Ali from La Reina Boardshorts. Charlee is thrilled to be stocking this groovy brand who make stylish boardshorts and surfwear from 100% recycled fabrics. Read on to get to know the founders of La Reina and find out why we think they're so special.
Where are you both from and where do you currently live?
We were born and raised in the Spanish Basque Country and although we love travelling, we are happy to say that we still live here. It’s a beautiful place surrounded by nature and ocean!
What inspired you to start La Reina?

What inspired you to start La Reina?Since Jorge was little, he was amazed with design and the boardshort world. That is why when he finished his studies, he started working as a designer and producer in a boardshort company. Then Jorge met Ali, both surfers with a love of comfortable garments. We both love images from the 60s.
That is when we decided to do the first women's shorts for Ali, just so that she could use them to practice her hobby. Then all our friends loved the idea, and we had to produce some more. Finally we created the brand and an instagram to communicate what we had in our heads :)

We’re big fans of your boardshorts here in Australia, have you ever visited here or plan to?
Ali visited Australia in 2019, and fell in love with the country! The trip started in Sydney then Byron, Gold Coast and finally Noosa. It was a dream…Ioved every single minute there so much. People were kind and funny, and waves were……..I can’t explain…. A dream!!! WE WILL COME BACK OF COURSE
What gave you the inspiration for the colours and prints in this range?
The idea was to create pure lines and colours, to last over time. The flower prints are a classic we wanted to include too..There is also very cool stuff coming for next collection, still keeping it nice and simple, can’t wait to show you!

Are you working on anything new at the moment?
Jorge is still working as a boardshort designer and producer not only for La Reina but also for other brands. Ali is an interior designer for houses. Both of us love the fact that we have creative jobs but maybe in a future we can manage full time in La Reina, we’d love to!
